Hydrants, Backflows, Meters

Whether managing municipal backflow prevention program or maintain existing fire hydrants, ESL is your one-stop shop for maintaining your regulatory compliance records.

Hydrants

All hydrants (public or private) must be maintained on an annual basis, more frequently in some jurisdictions.  Regular required maintenance keeps this important part of the fire protection system operating in peak condition.  Annual testing can also illuminate other problems in a water system such as closed valves or failed devices.

ESL can bring your private hydrants into regulatory compliance, interface with the local Fire Department, and maintain your annual records.  Although we conduct minor repairs while onsite (attaching chains, replacing missing rings), we bid out any large repairs.  This ensures that only the required repairs are conducted and eliminates unwarranted costs.

Backflow Prevention

The EPA requires that water purveyors prevent connections between private water lines and the municipal system that can cause harmful contaminants to flow back into the water supply. ESL can help both municipalities and water customers stay in compliance with federal, state, and local backflow requirements.

ESL can help develop and manage municipal cross-connection control programs. We can help water departments consider the various elements of a new program. Plus, our innovative funding ideas could help decrease the overall financial impact of starting a new backflow program.

ESL also performs backflow device testing; our backflow testers are trained at the University of Florida’s TREEO Center to perform tests on fire, domestic, and irrigation devices. Backflow testing can easily be bundled in with annual private hydrant testing. Our technicians exhibit the highest level of professionalism and proficiency.

Meters

Due to demanding water loss monitoring required by governmental bodies more jurisdictions are requiring full flow meters for new developments.  These meters record both lower domestic flows and higher fire flows.  Not only are the devices an extra expense on the site, but can also have high friction losses which effect residual pressures.  ESL can optimize full flow and domestic meters to ensure final flow and pressure demands can be achieved.

ESL can help you determine when a full flow meter is required and properly size the meter for your flow requirements.  Often impact fees are tied to the domestic and fire flow meter sizes, consequently optimizing meters can reduce these fees along with the actual device cost.
